Precise control - economical production!
12 exhibits clearly illustrate BOY's motto for the exhibition

With the debut of the new Procan ALPHA® control and 12 interesting exhibits - where special emphasis is given to precision and compact economic solutions - the medium-sized company presents itself at the K 2007 in Dusseldorf, with the corresponding positive resonance from the visitors.

Procan ALPHA® sets new standards
As a result of long-term developments and extensive test series at pilot companies, BOY now introduces its new control on the market.

With altogether three patented components, Procan ALPHA® sets decisive standards with regard to ease of operation, speed, and precision. With this new development BOY once more proves itself a technical pioneer, as they already did in 1998 when introducing touch-screen operation.

"Characteristics of the new control system are its ease of operation and secure functions", Bernd Fischer explains the advantages of Procan ALPHA®. "To the users higher speed, shorter cycle times, and utmost precision are increasingly important."

Easy and safe operation
Procan ALPHA® features a patented 15" full touch screen display that is both intuitive and easy to use. These features enable a rapid and safe operation. A logical analogue configuration continuously displays the process sequence; only very little time is needed for construction and change of screen pages. The configuration page displays the machine cycle with all auxiliary functions including core pulls, unscrewing, and the freely programmable entries and exits. The auxiliary functions can be selected directly. The complete touch screen operation works entirely without customary keys. The entry key panel is displayed on the monitor, and even functions for machine operation and the selection of operating modes are accomplished via the touch screen.

High speed, shorter cycle times
The hardware is based upon a rapid UTX PC system. The likewise patented, separate hardware module is especially effective regarding the processing of analogous signals. It reacts without delay and frees the PC from all time-critical tasks. Thus, even shorter cycle times can be achieved.

Maximum precision, highly efficient production
The third of the patented solutions, the Iterative Learning Controller (ILC), ensures high precision, which markedly reduces time and cost. Due to the ILC, the actual values are rapidly attained in a stable state. The advantages include the reduction of start-up and set-up times, and the deviations during continuous operation are quickly and precisely controlled. The profiles of actual and set values are largely approximated, minimizing frequency peaks.

Clean room: Sterile, compact, and automated
A BOY 22 A (220 kN clamping force) with white finish shows a very interesting clean room application that emphasizes the advantages of the cantilevered two-platen clamping unit. The compact clean room itself, and thus its investment and operating costs can be reduced to a minimum.

Sterile packaging is the special highlight of the unit producing catheters for infusion bottles. Thus, no further sterilization measures are needed for the parts. Air ionization, sprue removal, packaging, sealing, and labelling are largely installed within the machine's footprint (1.85 m²) in an extremely space-saving way.

Further highlights
BOY's successful presentation at the exhibition is supplemented by the camera-controlled production of micro gear wheels of only 0.001 g in a two-cavity mould on a BOY 12 A. Demoulding robot and camera system are completely integrated below the protective hood. The parts removal robot conveys the micro parts, sorted according to the respective cavity, to special containers.

A BOY 35 M with stuffing device demonstrates the processing of one-component solid silicone. With the production of soothers in a 6-cavity mould, BOY presents a markedly more simple one-component process as opposed to a complicated two-component mixing process.

The production of pipettes for insulin syringes made from PP is shown on a BOY 55 A in a 32-cavity mould. This injection molding machine is equipped with optional double pump and servo-electric screw drive, which enable simultaneous opening, ejection, and metering movements and thus reduce the cycle time by approx. two seconds.

The insert molding machine BOY 55 VV impressively demonstrates the fully automatic over-molding of insert parts. BOY presents to the expert visitors a modular and compact automation system installed on the machine frame in a space-saving manner (space needed only approx. 3.3 m²). The fixed lower clamping platen turns out to be very favourable for this kind of application.

A BOY 90 A with a new, ultra-modern hot runner mould produces thin-walled cable binders from PA 30 GF with very accurate reproduction of surface detail. Reliable repeatability, short cycle times, and plasticizing rates of up 27 g/s are proof of the efficiency of this machine which is equipped with a double pump.

An automatic conveying system, installed below the clamping unit, represents a compact solution that also reduces labour costs. The machine control releases a signal for the containers into which the parts drop to be shifted aside. The whole system is mainly situated below the cantilevered clamping unit. As soon as a container is full, it is shifted aside and an empty one takes its place below the discharge chute.

Machines in the booths of partner companies
Besides the seven machines in the BOY booth, five further BOY injection molding machines in the booths of partner companies round out BOY's presentation at the exhibition. In those booths, too, interesting applications are being demonstrated.

Statement
"With the 12 exhibits at the K 2007, we present a variety of attractive and innovative, practical solutions. All the applications we show embrace the motto: Precise control, economical production" says Carl Schiffer, Managing Director at BOY. "Thus, we offer our customers a "Plus" in precision and profitability."
