Press Release 22/2008
Compact and flexible, partly automated
At the Mechanical Engineering Fair MSV in Brno / Czech Republic (September 15 - 19), BOY's Czech distributor PLASTOCHEM BRNO spol. s.r.o. will show the insert molding machine, a BOY 55 A VV with automated equipment for the insert of metal parts. Large shot volumes, favourable machine hour rates, and a footprint of only 3.33 m² characterize the four tie bar insert molding machine.
"Besides the demand for manual insertion, we also register a requirement for automation in our market. This refers mainly to the automotive industry. However also in other sectors, insert and injection molding machines with automation for large production volumes are used", says Petr Betáš, responsible for the sales of BOY machines at Plastochem, adding: "The machine exhibited at the Fair will be equipped with semiautomation. For the user, this is a lot more efficient - e. g. in case of product change - than having a complete automation down to the last production step."
A six-axis robot, installed in a very space-saving way on the machine frame, will demonstrate its dexterity within the compact production cell. Four different-size of pins for Allen keys will be over-moulded with a handle. Simultaneously, a holder for the keys will be manufactured.
A gripper takes the metal pins from the storage container and advances into the from the rear side into the open mould. As a first step the moulded parts are removed, then the gripper makes a 180 degree turn within the mould and inserts the metal pins in the cavities. By turning the gripper within the mould, valuable cycle time is saved. When the sprue has been successfully removed, the gripper deposits the parts onto a conveyor belt.
