The BOYS Put On a Good Show at NPE 2009

During the 2009 National Plastics Exposition, BOY Machines, Inc., the Exton, PA-based supplier of injection molding machines, showcased nine of their quality injection molding machines including the newly introduced BOY XS, the BOY XSV and the E-Series BOY 90E. The BOY NPE 2009 theme of SIMPLY PRECISE was unmistakably demonstrated.

Five BOY XS machines (11 U.S. tons), which were introduced to the North American market for the first time, were grouped together to produce a personal kit including the two-part case and three other personal-use items. A sixth BOY XS demonstrated micro molding by producing a tiny gear housing and featured a unique vibratory sprue separator. The many hundreds of booth attendees saw first hand that the BOY XS, with a footprint of less than nine square feet, is ideally suited for single-cavity sprueless injection molding.

A BOY XSV machine (11 U.S. tons), which features a vertical clamp and vertical injection unit, demonstrated insert molding by producing a nail file. The footprint of the BOY XSV impressed attendees, which is less than seven square feet. A BOY 90E (99 U.S. tons), which was also introduced to the North American market for the first time, featured a servomotor pump drive that reduces energy consumption by 50%, is quieter, faster, and even more precise. The BOY 90E ran a three-plate, four-cavity cap mold. Real time energy consumption was monitored and displayed on a large screen. A BOY 35A (38.6 U.S. tons) demonstrated its two-component Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) capabilities by producing a key holder in a two-cavity mold.

All nine BOY machines were equipped with the patented Procan ALPHA Control. The remote access and control features of the Procan ALPHA were demonstrated by accessing via an internet connection a BOY 22A that was producing parts at the BOY Exton, Pennsylvania headquarters. A video cam of the remote machine was displayed on a large screen and real time remote access to the Procan ALPHA control was demonstrated.

According to Chuck Alexander, National Sales Manager, the BOY XS and the E-Series machines were widely accepted by all booth attendees, as many requests for quotations were made. In summing up NPE 2009, Alexander stated, “we are very pleased with the interest in both the BOY XS and E-Series machines. Based upon our numerous meetings with customers and prospects, we expect to receive a number of orders for these new BOY models.
